WHAT IS OH3SWL?

OH3SWL (Finnish Amateur Listeners Association) was founded november 5th in 1948. Association is main organisation for Finnish amateur listeners. Many radioamateurs did receive several QSL from SWL's in 1946-7 and soon it was very wild action and many amateur did not like this kind of actions. That is main reason why this association was founded.
Finnish Radioamateur League (SRAL) was favourable and think that among SWL's is potential radioamateurs. This was happen as we can see after these years. Many amateur did start first SWL and later get licence for "real" working in ham bands.

Initiator in this matter was SRAL secretary (1948) Armas Häkkänen, OH2NQ. He contact to Osmo A. Wiio, OH2TK and they arrange meeting in november 5th 1948. In this meeting chairman was Osmo, OH2TK. Actually he was not long in SWL committee, main thing was start association.

Now in new century we listeners still send QSL cards to radioamateurs and hopefully do get QSL card also back. Unfortantelly there is still many stations who do not like SWL cards and do not answer those! But, be positive and answer QSL card when SWL send it for you! Who knows, it could be just your card which inspire SWL go to licence test!

WHAT IS SWL?

SWL do listen commucation between radioamateurs. Do not mix SWL for DX-listener! DX-listener listen world BC- radiostations, mainly in same wavelenghts, but not radioamateurs.
How to get SWL callsign?
You must contact to your country head office of Radioamateurs or if you know any radioamateur or SWL visit in his/hers house and notify that you are interested about this hobby. SWL do not need any licence or courses for this kind action in Finland, but confirm from head office your country requirements!

TIPS...
When you design your own QSL-card you do not need any expensive programs. You can do it with free OpenOffice.Org draw program. Print to PDF or image file. Check formats from printhouse you are using to print your QSL-cards.

WHAT IS IN THESE SITE?

First of all, in left is many links. Under "choose page" is mostly Finnish language pages. Links, Finnish lighthouses and messageboard may be also somthing for you. If you are using messageboard to send greetings or comments and want us to contact you, please include your e-mail address (not requied) in message.

Under "province/county lists" is some provincelists, county lists, etc. They could be older and may have some missing information, but mostly they are propely.

Under "contest/points table" is only few links. A.Volta and Anarts links are points table for OH-amateurs for calculate points. OH-kisat and SWL-kisat are only in finnish language and ment to OH SWL's. There is few information how to make contest log.
